Need Gum Gone? Chewing gum removal is a sticky business, whether it’s stuck on your concrete, parking lot or the side of a building, chewing gum eventually changes into a smudge on concrete. But usually before that point, visitors and customers walking into a store or office will step on the gum and get it in all over the carpets, rugs and mats. Then it is embedded deep into the carpet and into the porous surface of concrete or asphalt, just waiting for someone to step in it again, to carry it somewhere else in your building.
We are happy to offer gum removal as one of our commercial pressure washing services in Cambridge MA. Find more information about our service below:
The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.
The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Next we slide the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.
The above process is only possible with brand new gum.
When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we do not use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!
Our crew never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
To remove gum from parking lots and other commercial surfaces we use specially designed hot water pressure washing equipment and special soaps and detergents that enable us to clean the surface without resulting in any damages.
Using special 200 degree hot water pressure washers and low pressure, we can safely remove chewing gum and dirt while protecting the surface. Our method will also destroy bacteria and viruses that are found in gum.
